“But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.32 wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law.” - Romans 9:32

     Nothing is more frustrating than a product that fails to perform as promised. We look for products that meet our expectations and remain loyal customers only when those products perform to our standards. We are always looking for a better mouse trap.

     Oh, that man was as demanding about spiritual matters. Men will compass sea and land to find that product, which tomorrow is obsolete. But they will not search the scriptures which never change, those scriptures that reveals a salvation which never changes. They have been sold a bill of goods that will not meet their expectations in the Day of Judgment.  (Matthew 7:21-23), (Acts 17:31)  

     The law of God will do one of three things; it will motivate sinners to establish a righteousness of their own or it will stop the mouth and bring the sinner in guilty, with no hope of salvation by their works and it will prepare the heart to receive the gospel of Christ and his righteousness imputed for all their salvation. 

     All, as did Israel, fail to attain to the law of righteousness by our works of law. Nothing we do or abstain from doing equals God’s righteousness imputed.

     But everything Christ did equals the righteousness that God requires. His obedience, his suffering and death, his work satisfied God’s law and justice and established the one righteousness in which saving faith rests.

     God’s elect expect to be finally glorified with Christ based on his righteousness imputed without any contribution from the sinner. We cannot fail nor be frustrated because (under the Gospel), the law, which before found us guilty of going about to establish a righteousness of our own, now demands our full, free, eternal salvation based on Christ’s attaining unto the law of righteousness in our name and nature. Our faithful God promised; our suffering Savior provided; and we fully expect.
