When troubled by sin and guilt within, when contemplating the holiness and majesty of God, where can a sinner find any peace and rest for the soul; where can he find any assurance of everlasting salvation? Certainly not by looking within for like Paul, honesty compels us to confess, “For I know that in me, (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing” (Romans 7:18).

     The only peace for a troubled soul is to be found in the Lord Jesus Christ who accomplished redemption which fully satisfied the demands of the Holy One. Christ lived, died, arose and ever lives for a spiritually impoverished people. It is only in Christ and Him crucified that a poor sinner can find real joy and assurance that all is well with a just and righteous God.
