Here are five great challenges given by the Lord to encourage those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ that our everlasting security is a matter of divine promise and protection; our salvation, therefore, is absolutely certain (Romans 8:31-35).

1. Who can successfully oppose the Lord’s people since the God of foreknowledge (everlasting, foreordaining affection), predestination, effectual calling, justification and glorification has set Himself for the eternal salvation of His chosen people?  Verse 31, “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?”
2. Since God did not withhold the dearest to His heart, His only begotten Son, but sacrificed Him in our stead to satisfy the demands of His broken law, will He not also provide for all the other things that we require for time and eternity as well?  Verse 32, “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?”
3. God’s elect are declared by the Lord to be righteous through the obedience unto death of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Who could ever, therefore, bring a valid accusation of sin against them seeing that our Savior bore all of the charges of His people?  Christ “was made sin…that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).  Verse 33, “Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect?  It is God that justifieth.”  
4. Who can condemn to endless hell those in whose stead Christ, the appointed Substitute, has already endured and exhausted the wrath of God, offering Himself the sacrifice for our sins.  He conquered the grave and for us He appears as Advocate, Mediator and High Priest in heaven.  Verse 34, “Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.”
5. Who or what can ever sever from Christ those for whom He obtained eternal redemption by His justice-satisfying death upon the cross of Calvary?  Verse 35, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?  Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?”
