A little over two thousand years ago the Son of God descended into this vile world so that someday we would ascend into that perfect world from which He came. He was made lower than the angels to raise us higher than the angels. He became a servant that we might be made kings and priests unto God. He was made sin for us so that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. He became poor that we would become rich. He came to die in time, so that we would live with Him throughout eternity. He took upon Himself human nature so that we might be partakers of the divine nature. He tabernacled among men so that men could dwell eternally with Him.
He made Himself of no reputation in order that we might have His glorious name, "the LORD our righteousness". He was rejected of men so that we would not be rejected by the Father. He became a worm, and no man, so that worms of the dust would be called the children of God. He willingly bore the curse of a broken law so that we would be heirs of all the blessings of the everlasting covenant of grace. When He took our guilt upon Himself, He was justly condemned so that we would be justly saved.
He drank the bitter cup of divine wrath so that we would drink from the soul-refreshing pure waters of the river of life. He hungered that we might eat of the Bread of life. He was numbered among transgressors so that we would be numbered among the saints of God. He was condemned that we might be justified. He wore a crown of thorns that we might wear a crown of glory.
He poured out His soul unto death so that all who believe on Him will never die. For a time, He was forsaken of the Father so that we might hear the divine promise, "I will never leave thee nor forsake thee". He was stripped of His clothes to hang in shame before a mocking crowd so that we would be robed in the white garment of His spotless righteousness and stand accepted before the Father.
In short, for a time He endured the worst so that we would, for evermore, enjoy the best - HIMSELF! O glorious Saviour!
