Would you listen to a preacher who would take out a weapon and seriously injure a man?

     Would you listen to a preacher who from the pulpit called a woman in the congregation a “dog?” 

     Would you listen to a man whose bodily presence and appearance was repulsive to the eye?  

     Would you listen to a preacher who had a disagreement with an apostle?

     Would you listen to a preacher who once sought to sit in a special place at the right hand of Christ? 

     Would you listen to a preacher who deserted his ministry in the face of the enemy’s opposition?

     Would you listen to a preacher who ran a bunch of people out of church with a whip?

     Would you listen to a preacher who sometimes fell into such depression that he asked God to let him die?

    Would you listen to a preacher who, in the presence of some of his own race, refused to eat with believers of another race?

     Would you listen to a preacher who stood and rebuked a brother face to face concerning the doctrine of grace as it wastaught in the church?

     Would you listen to a preacher who couldn’t tell the difference between Judas Iscariot and the true apostles?

     Could any of these men be your pastor?

     If not, then neither could the apostles Peter, Paul, John, Mark or any of the other apostles and neither could the Lord Jesus Christ Himself! The gospel is a perfect treasure. Yet, we have this treasure in earthen vessels. Don’t expect too much from a clay pot, just be glad if he preaches the gospel of the sovereign grace of God in Christ Jesus. God, in His wisdom, uses the men He does for a reason: that the glory might all be to Him! Sin is never to be excused in any of us, but human perfection is never to be expected!
