At the end of the day....

I haven’t forgotten my posts on common grace, I have been so busy at work and busy at home with summer chores that I don’t have much time to sit and say the things that are in my mind to say, soon I hope.

It continues to amaze me that if we take a given doctrinal subject and begin to discuss it, whether it be one on one, in a discussion group or even between likeminded pastors and elders there are various interpretations of that subject. I sat in church for probably 15 years and didn’t know that, I guess because I didn’t have the means to research other’s opinions on any subject, didn’t have the courage to ask questions and so I thought everyone believed ‘exactly’ the same on everything. Boy, was I naïve…. One says this, another says that, some we agree with, some we don’t and some things we continue to study because we don’t fully understand. What a joyful journey it is to study to show ourselves approved.

I know, for me and I’m sure for every true believer, it is because I am hungry for the Truth of the Word of God, the Living Word! Living in that ignorance was certainly simpler but at the same time I didn’t have growth in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus either and so I wouldn’t want to go back to ignorance. It is precisely this growing in knowledge that increases my conscious possession of my only comfort and at the end of the day I can ‘know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I’ve committed unto Him against that day”.

HC #1 What is thy only comfort in life and in death?

That I, with body and soul, both in life and in death, am not my own, but belong to my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ, who with His precious blood has fully satisfied for all my sins, and redeemed me from the power of the devil; and so preserves me, that without the will of my Father in heaven not a hair can fall from my head; yea, that all things must work together for my salvation. Wherefore, by His Holy Spirit, He also assures me of eternal life, and makes me heartily willing and ready henceforth to live unto Him.
