I could post about our vital union for a long time and not run out of the glorious things to say about the Truth of it. I was going to delve into the book of Colossians but we are starting that in our bible study this week and so I want to leave discovering the richness there among those I study and fellowship with. What a blessing they are to me! I’m going to finish this with these wonderful truths from the book of Romans, chapter 8.
No condemnation!
Romans 8:1a “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus”
We read and hear that often, I hope we don’t read it too quickly and miss the depth of what it is saying or take it for granted because it is so familiar to us. We are no longer condemned for our sin, although the sin that is in us still deserves condemnation. This is why we mourn over our sin and often condemn ourselves for it, but it can no longer bring us into condemnation, we are justified. Sin, itself, has been condemned in Christ; He was made sin for us and fulfilled the righteous requirements of the law. His righteousness is now ours because we are in Him and this is our spiritual peace and joy!
No Separation
Romans 8:35 “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
I’m so thankful that the Lord has taught me the truth of His Word and His very work on my behalf. There are many who profess Christ and yet believe that He will leave them and forsake them because they believe that the union we have in Him is something that they do to begin with. We know that to be a lie and we have the scriptures to give us truth and comfort in times of doubt and struggle.
Romans 8:38-39 “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus”.
Heirs of Glory!
Romans 8:17 “and if children, then heirs- heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”
We are adopted children, but children nevertheless and as children we have an inheritance. We are heirs of God Himself- If God is for us, who can be against us.
Psalm 16:5 “The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot”.
Revelation 21:3 “And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God”
And we are joint heirs with Christ, if we suffer with Him, and the suffering that we endure here is for the present and not even worthy to be compared to our joint inheritance in Christ. That is why we are to think on things above where our inheritance is.
Galatians 4:7 "Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son then an heir of God through Christ"
Romans 8:23 "And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body."
The scripture tells us why we groan within ourselves, waiting in hope expectantly for the day when all of this shall be consummated in our redeemed bodies as we are glorified in Him. All of the redeemed, the true saints, the ‘church’ groan together and plead the same together in joyful anticipation of our union becoming visible, complete in Glory, as we see Him as He is and enjoy Him forevermore : even so, come Lord Jesus!
