We cannot live without water, we are sustained by water, we are refreshed by water, our thirst is quenched by water. The Word tells us that God is the Fountain of life and living water and we must be dependent on Him as the Source.
Jesus told the Samaritan woman at the well that if she knew who was asking her for a drink she would have asked of him and he would have given her living water and she in turn asked him ‘from whence then hast thou that living water” (John 4:10-11)
“If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water” (John 7: 37b-38)
It is the Spirit of Grace signified so often in scripture as water, cleansing and causing us to grow and bring forth fruit, it is Living water, what a picture that portrays to us. It is an abundant fountain that is ever flowing, cool and refreshing and revives us when we are dry and parched, the Living water alone quenches thirst!
“When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water and the dry land springs of water” (Isaiah 41:17,18)
Spiritually in Christ we have all that we need but there are times of refreshing in the Living Water, bringing fresh views of righteousness and new spiritual light, what seems like a fresh supply of Grace from Christ, new and abiding comfort in Him and all of it flowing from the Throne of Grace, the Fountain of living water.
“”And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” and let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely” (Revelation 22:17)
