The love of God is supremely manifested in His Son, Jesus Christ. The Son, that He gave, for God so loved……..the Son that walked the Via Dolorosa, the way of suffering, to the cross for those that the Father had given to Him, to atone for their sins and to purchase their redemption. It is wholly and totally underserved by anyone, it is His own love and was demonstrated to the elect in that:
“For when we were yet without strength, in due time, Christ died for the ungodly” (Romans 5:6) KJV
“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8) NIV
“This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” (1 John 4:9-10) NIV
Think upon that for a moment if you will, ponder it and hold it close to your heart for there is no greater Truth in this life then to know the love of God in Christ Jesus. This love has been shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit (Rom 5:5) and we rejoice in this love.
"We love Him because He first loved us" (1 John 4:19) KJV
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20) NIV
It is because of His love that we are adopted,
“In love He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will” (Ephesians 1:4b-5) NIV
and it is described as GREAT:
“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God” (1 John 3:1)
“Behold the amazing gift of love
The Father hath bestowed,
On us the sinful sons of men,
To call us sons of God!” (Isaac Watts)
