The love of God is immutable, never changing!
Never changing, what a wonder that is! We are so mutable that it is hard to grasp that God never changes. There are times when we are chastened, rebuked and it seems that the Lord hides His face from us and yet His love never wavers, never changes, there is no shadow of turning.
“For a small moment have I forsaken thee, but with great mercies will I gather thee. In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer. For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee. For the mountains shall depart, the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.
(Isaiah 54:7-10)KJV
He tells us that He changes not.
"For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed" (Malachi 3:6) KJV
Even when we backslide, when we go astray His love never changes towards us, He loves us freely.
“I will heal their waywardness and love them freely, for my anger has turned away from them” (Hosea 14:4) NIV
It is constant and never fails!
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23) NIV
We sing this song often in church and I find myself singing it or humming it at home as well because they are dear to me, His compassions, His faithfulness, His love.
Great is thy faithfulness
Oh God my Father
There is no shadow of turning with thee;
Thou changest not, thy compassions they fail not;
As thou hast been thou forever wilt be.
Oh to ponder in my heart this love! It lifts me up to places I cannot fathom without it.
