Remember me, O LORD, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation; (5) That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance. - Psalm 106:4-5
Like the thief on the cross said "remember me", we are entirely dependent on the Lord to 'remember' us. We don't assume or presume, or claim an assurance based on something we did to "get it".
Salvation is of the Lord. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. We know the Father has favor toward His people. But am I of that number? God doesn't tell us directly. God does not open the book of life and let us flip through the pages to see if we can find our names. Without faith is is impossible to please God.
But we plead, "remember me", "be propitious to me, the sinner", "I commit my soul to thee against that day", "I believe! Help thou my unbelief." Only when we believe in such a fashion which gives up all pretense and pride can we claim the promises to those who believe.
