Outside of my church, I will sometimes hear people speaking of salvation, but when they do they seem to miss the most important part. They often believe salvation is by your own choosing. They think you first have to “accept” Jesus as your savior. That is not salvation. If you’re lost you can’t choose to be found. No, this is up to the other party. A god that wants you to be saved but can’t save you is a weak god! A god that can be stopped by your own will is a weak god! But our God is not a weak god! This is the God of Abraham! This is the God of Isaac! This is the God that reigns in glory over the universe! When Paul was commanded to go into the city he didn’t say no. Who can say no unto God!?
It is not our act of faith that saves us, it is faith that shows we are saved. “By grace we are saved through faith; and NOT of ourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). All men are born wicked and we must be found. We are too sinful to make it to God ourselves and so, Jesus paid for our sins. If we were able to choose our salvation we wouldn’t need Jesus in the first place. Don’t ascribe our filth to the holiness of salvation. Jesus is our only hope. And as He already said almost 2000 years ago, “it is finished.” (John 19:30) Salvation is accomplished. Salvation is of the Lord.
