Positive Gospel Preaching vs. Theological Polemics

Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. - Jude 1:3

Many of us, by temperament, shy away from theological debates and polemics, preferring to focus on preaching the gospel rather than refuting errors. This inclination is commendable based on personal preference.  However, we should consider Jude's perspective. While celebrating the gospel should be a matter of enthusiastic rejoicing, defending it does  become a necessity at times.  However, I find it sad that some people have inverted this prioritization.   Some even express little eagerness to rejoice, but focus entirely on polemics to the point that they even miss Christ.  They know of Him, but they do not know Him.
